IWorks is a good package, and Pages is compatible with Word document format if you have to have the.doc format. I agree that iWork is a good package but I prefer not to use the word compatible because it leads people to make assumptions that aren't true. Yes, iWork programs can open and save as their respective MS Office components but since iWork isn't a clone of Office the way LibreOffice tries to be, there are things that don't work well.

I have Word and Excel documents that cannot be opened at all, or only with major errors by Pages and Numbers. Further, documents I save with those two programs (exporting them as Office docs) often look very different when an Office user opens them. I do agree but was only mentioning Pages since that offers 'some' sort of compatibility.this has always been a problem with word processors. When I was actually using WordPerfect heavily, there was conversion capability for Word documents.well, that was a major overstatement.the conversion actaully only worked on plain text. And that was sometimes garbbled. Tables and equations, which I use heavily as an engineer, forget it.
Not possible. And Excel and Quattro Pro conversion was a disaster. So I agree, before buying into a package, underestand the true capability of conversion to other formats. And honestly assess your goals for compatibility with other products and your needs for those other products. If you really want the features of a particular product, just buy that product and avoid conversion frustrations. Never tried LibreOffice, may have to try it just to see what it is like.
I have 2 computers running Windows 7. My iMac runs Windows through Bootcamp.
I've had this setup for nearly 2 years now without ANY complaints. Just runs great. My new MBA is also running Windows 7, although with Parallels. I've only had it less than 2 months, but it seems to run Windows 7 great. Both computers are running Office for Windows (I think it is the '07 version).
