The links you provided don't have the kind of fine-grained info I'm looking for about differences in the VBA environment in 2016 vs. 2011, but thanks for taking a stab at answering. I think I'm just going to conclude that the answer to my question about whether any formal documentation exists for VBA in Word for Mac 2016 (or differences in VBA for 2016 vs 2011) is no, it doesn't exist anywhere. I've been piecing together tips and observations on VBA in 2016 from a variety of sources (including many helpful answers on this forum), and of course I've been debugging on my own using good old trial and error, but it sure would be nice to have the difference between versions documented in one (searchable) place by the programmers who actually know what's different under the hood. I was able to debug my most recent problem with ellipses on my own by using the Chr(201) character code instead of the ellipsis character itself, so my advice to others adapting macros they created in 2011 for use in 2016 is to go through all of your old VBA code and replace any remotely 'special' characters (ellipses, en and em dashes, paragraph returns, letters with diacritics, etc.) with the specific chr codes.

I'm sure I should have been using character codes all along, but in my defense, a) I'm completely self-taught in VBA, and b) the macro worked fine for years in 2011 and it was the 'record macro' function that 'wrote' the original macro using the ellipsis character rather than chr(201). I didn't write that one from scratch, but it never gave me trouble until now so I never really looked at the actual code. Yours is the first report I've noticed about this particular difference.

A lot of features were dropped from the user interface in 2016. Some are still programmable using VBA. Others aren't. Some new features that didn't exist in 2011 are supported by VBA.

The ellipsis thing might be a bug or might have something to do with the character set involved. If you feel it's a bug, use the Smile button in Word to report the problem to Microsoft.

I can't find anything where MS has posted actual information about the VB editor for 2016, other than the on the Word Mac 2016 uservoice forum on January 29, 2016, which is why I posted this question in the first place.

But the two VBE environments are definitely NOT identical. Entire menus worth of commands are missing in 2016 compared to 2011. Menus for VBE in Word 2011: Menus for VBE in Word 2016 as of 15.29: If you're familiar with what was available under Insert, Format, Debug, Run, and Tools in Word 2011, then these two screenshots provide a pretty good summary of what functionalities are missing in 2016. I look here after every update/release to see if anything has been added. Pretty sure this is what Jim Gordon means when he says that the VBE for 2016 is 'merely a stub.' You can't even view the freaking object browser ('View-->Object Browser' in 2011).
