Im Working On Word For Mac And It Froze
I was working in Word when it crashed and only presented me with the options to restart the program or close the program. I closed the program and checked the document to see the last save time had been an hour or so earlier.
Just wondering if anyone else was having issues with Microsoft Word from MS Office 2008, where you open the application, you type a few sentences, and the application freezes with the spinning circle of death that won't go away until you click the dock where it says 'application not responding' and do a force-quit? You can leave the circle spinning for 10-20-30 minutes, and it never goes away. Now for the weird part--this error only happens for me when I'm using a specific document on my computer. I can open Word, start a new document, type several paragraphs of text, and it works fine.
But I've been working on an existing paper for about two months that all of a sudden started causing these freezes/crashes when editing it. It's about 30 pages roughly, no images, no big inserts that would take up a lot of memory (116 kb in size). And up until today, there were no problems. So why all of a sudden can't I edit anything on this paper without freezing the program?! I downloaded the Microsoft Office 2008 Service Pack 1 that was just released after this problem started, and ran all the recent Java and program updates through Software Update with computer restarts. I even copied the text from the Word document I was working on, pasted it into a new document, tried saving it as both.doc and.docx, and again the program still freezes when working with that text in a new file.
This one baffles me. It's like the text within a document is somehow freezing the application. One thing I did notice is that the freezes seem to happen when I'm scrolling using a mouse wheel. Not always, but quite a bit. I suppose this is some memory issue related to several pages of text that the program can't render or process when you add new lines of text or scroll, but again, I can't figure why this paper I've been working on for months all of a sudden decided to start freezing Word today.
Can you really only have 30 double-spaced pages of text in Word before it crashes? Looks like I've found my reason to switch to Open Office, since I'm 3-4 days out from a deadline. Any other solution strategies would be welcome. I've been having the same trouble. I'm using Microsoft Word 2004 for Mac Version 11.2 on my OS 10.5.5.
My document will freeze when I am typing. Mostly capital letters L and S sometimes the decimal symbol '.' Will case the program to freeze.
My document is 167 kilobytes, larger documents do not have this problem. I also notice that it also always happens when I am modifying text that I had on the clip-board at some point (i.e.
Cut and paste from another document). I have not had trouble with larger files. If you are patient, it will respond again in about 10 to 20 minutes. It happens so often that it is a pain. Hopefully this helps.
(This is the password that you use to log in to your Mac.) • The software begins to install. • Enter your Mac login password, if prompted, and then click Install Software. If Office installation fails, see. Note: If you want to only install specific Office apps and not the entire suite, click the Customize button and uncheck the programs you don't want. Click Close when the installation is finished.
There are numerous reports of keyboard problems with Office 2004 (not coded for Intel processors) on Intel Macs. An older program written for the PowerPC processor can only run on an Intel Mac by using the Rosetta technology built into the Intel version of OSX to translate the older code for the newer processor. Apparently, something about Office 2004 has a problem with the translation on some Intel Macs.
I have Office 2008 on my MBP and it has not exhibited any problems. However, it runs no faster on the 2.2G MBP than it does on my G4 1.25G Mirrored Drive Door. I have a similar problem: Word (2004) freezes but only when I have Endnote Open (bibliography software) AND I use the wheel button to scroll. The only way I can unfreeze is to click-hold on the Word icon in the Dock and move to a different opened document. Mxf player and library for mac. If I only have one document open then the only thing I can do is force quit from the apple icon and I loose changes made since the last save. I am using a Logitech mouse and have not tried to go back to the Apple mouse to see if I have the same problem.
